Operating our heaters is very easy.

  1. Prepare your room for treatment
  2. Set up the heater (it's just plug and play!)
  3. Leave it running for about six hours.

The room will heat up the target temperature zone of 115-143ºF. All bed bugs will die at that temperature within minutes. Leave the heater running for a few hours to be sure you've penetrated all clutter and crevices. And now you're bed bug free!

How to Prepare

Store-bought Pesticides

Before beginning treatment, do not use any over-the-counter pesticide bombs, foggers, sprays or dusts. These products are known as "repellents", which will drive bedbugs into your walls and other rooms. This will severely diminish effectiveness of the heater. If you have already used these products, give us a call and we can help sort it out.

Clean the Room

To begin the heat prep process, vacuum and sweep off flooring. Declutter as much as possible while permanently disposing of all trash and unwanted items before treatment.

Make sure to not leave any animal hair in the room. Hair is hazardous to the equipment and your indoor air quality once agitated by the heat system.

Furniture

With heat treatment, air flow is the key to reaching lethal temperatures in all areas.

Open all drawers and unpack any overly packed or stuffed areas. Arrange items loosely in closets so that heat can circulate between them.

Pull furniture about 6 inches from the walls. Sleeper sofas must be completely pulled out, and please drain or deflate any water or air mattresses. Remember, air flow is the key.

Some window blinds have a very low heat tolerance. You may want to remove and wash them before treatment.

Belongings

High power fans are used during this process. Loose papers should be secured or weighted down. Pictures and posters may be blown down and should thus be taken down and laid flat.

Unplug all electronics except for major appliances.

Some items are extremely sensitive to high temperatures these items may be removed once deemed free of bedbugs.

Remove all highly flammable or combustible items such as lighters, hairspray, and fire extinguishers.

Remove any pets, fish, or plants.

Family heirlooms and irreplaceable items should be inspected and a determination made as to whether they should remain in the treatment area.

Laundry and Bedding

Bedbugs will often seek shelter within or under piles of clothing. Piles of clothing should either be hung up on hangers or spread out.

Large blankets and comforters can be draped over interior doors or washed to kill any harboring bed bugs.

Wash bedding and washable excess clutter on a high heat setting followed by a high heat dry cycle.

Seal the Room

Try to seal the room from escaping heat in places like HVAC vents, lights, bathroom exhaust fans, bottoms of doors, and wall air conditioners. Cover window panes with blankets or equivalent to minimize loss of energy from cold windows.

If you have a fire sprinkler system we recommend the heads be drained and capped before the heat process commences. If this is not an option we do have techniques to protect the heads in place during treatment and are more than happy to share those with you.

How to Operate the Heaters

Plug in all Heaters and Fans

There will be up one cord attached to each heater and fan, and up to 8 separate cords for the heating elements. Note that

Turn on all Equipment

Each circuit breaker in your home will likely support only two cords before breaking the circuit. If a circuit trips when turning on the equipment, use the included array of extension cords to plug into different circuits of your home.

Leave the Heater Running

The room will take a few hours to heat up to a lethal temperature. Use the included temperature gun to monitor the room. Once the room has reached about 120ºF for a couple hours, the room is treated.

Move the Heater to other Rooms

If you have any other rooms to treat, move the equipment. If not, you are now bed bug free!
